Derek Anderson

ng, snot-nosed, thumb-in-the-mouth sobbing.

Let's review, The 2008 season began with Derek Anderson as the starter coming off a break-out year and the Notre Dame wunderkind Brady Quinn waiting in wings. We had the quarterback position locked down.  Wide Recievers? oh yeah, we had receivers. Braylon Edwards was catching everything but the flu last year. We added the the speedster Donte Stallworth and how about that Kellen Winslow.. The offensive line was tight and we shored up the defense with some veteran free agents. We were ready for prime time! Then the wheels fell off and we're 4-9 looking at 4-12. Actually in fairness I must say that only half the wheels fell off. You see, The Browns would be at least 8-5 right now if NFL games ended after the first thirty minutes of play. Unfortunatley, NFL games last AN HOUR! How many first half leads did we squander?

Last week’s effort was a start, despite the loss.

1. Derek Anderson (CLE)—Yes, the Browns could still make the playoffs. They’ve proven that they can hang with anyone when they’re clicking together (i.e. routing of Giants), but they’ve lacked consistency. On the field, Anderson needs to forget about his job security and just focus on making accurate reads/passes. He’s better than this.

It's a shame the blame is being shifted to the quarterback. Derek Anderson, when given the time to throw, and the opportunity to throw deep, has looked good. Injuries, Braylon Edwards and weak play-calling from the vaunted 'Chud' have not shed the light very well on D.A.'s cannon arm and improved accuracy. Sure, everybody likes the slant route, but it's not always going to work if the defense is looking for it, and/or the receivers are scared to go over the middle. A little better usage of the comeback routes would definitely prove a way to get some more first downs, as well as give our faster receivers chances to make plays.

By this, I mean Derek Anderson looks to be the real deal. We saw the performance of a kid who wasn't afraid of going back to the bench. Concussion or not, he played fearlessly, and his arm looked absolutely golden. Make no mistake about it, if Braylon Edwards brought anything above his 'D' game yesterday and/or anyone above Syndric Steptoe played WR No. 2 (Stallworth, Cribbs, Terrelle Pryor, I don't care... LeBron) the point total would have reached the 20's.

There’s no bigger of a surprise than quarterback Derek Anderson. A third year player and former sixth round pick, Anderson has been instrumental in pulling the Browns from the ashes.

Unfortunately, slow starts are Derek Anderson’s modus operandi. While Anderson is having a highly successful season--he was just voted in as a Pro Bowl alternate--it cannot be forgotten that Anderson has a penchant for poor play early in games.

third selection in next month's draft, the Browns should not give up on Charlie Frye.  Or Derek Anderson for that matter.  With a competent rushing attack, the Browns don't need a superstar at quarterback.

They had Derek Anderson prove that he can be a top ten quarterback. Something great to know when you have first round pick Brady Quinn waiting in the wings. His breakout coincided with the play of Braylon Edwards and Kellen Winslow. While the latter was already a known commodity, Braylon really needed to show that he deserved the status that comes with being the number three overall draft pick a few years back.

fense, their obvious strength of the team.  Jamal Lewis seemed to be running faster than ever, Derek Anderson was hitting his underneath receivers and the offense was moving the ball through a fierce wind.  The second bad break or bad bounce for the Browns was when Dave Zastudil couldn't handle the snap on a very makeable field goal that would have put the Browns up in the first quarter.  After Kenny Watson shredded the defense for runs of 7 and 9 yards back-to-back, Carson Palmer was picked off by Leigh Bodden and returned 22 yards.  The Browns found themselves with a fourth-and-one deep in Cincinnati's side of the field.  This time on a clean snap, Jamal Lewis was stuffed straight up the gut and gave the ball right back to the Bengals in a scoreless game.  Fast forward to only 1:13 left in the first half and the Browns found themselves only down 6-0 with the ball.  Well although that doesn't sound like a bad scenario it was.
