Roster Management, Romeo Style

Man, I'm posting on Thanksgiving?  I'm more anti-social than even I realized.

So apparently Brady Quinn is already the starter for next season.  Don't look at me like that, Romeo said it first.  Nevermind that Derek Anderson is starting again after Brady aggravated his finger injury (gee, who saw that coming?) and could use some vote of confidence from... well, anybody.  The closest thing he's gotten to that is when Romeo was asked about if DA got on a hot streak, to which the giant hamster remarked that the press hated him when he was starting and was now asking about if he performed well.

Make note, because it's one of the few defendable things Romeo said during that press conference.  The reason?  It's absolutely true.  Sure, some people cut him some slack, but coming off a Pro Bowl year people haven't exactly been hesitant about jumping down his orange-and-brown throat for every incomplete pass and/or interception, despite his not having the same protection or wide receiver efficiency that he did last season.  Don't get me wrong, Derek did make some pretty bad decisions, but I think there's one specific reason people didn't take to DA.

He wasn't supposed to happen.

Remember the draft of '07?  Remember the Browns jumping back into the first round after that Dallas trade to get Quinn?  That was supposed to be the defining moment.  People talked about how he could sit behind people like Frye and Anderson while Dorsey taught him X's and O's and the other two guys tried to stay upright in another rough season which would see Quinn as the starter by Week 12 or so.  Then like a Buick to the hip, WHAM!  10-6 season, near-miss on the playoffs, Pro Bowls, contract extensions, and sports anchors making Cleveland their "sexy" pick for 2008 to make a playoff run but have no impact on the Super Bowl.

That wasn't supposed to happen.

That led into the "win now" mentality which saw the Browns make all sorts of free agency trades to get people like Rogers, Williams, Stallworth, and the like.  Without that season, does the Browns management keep its staff largely intact and make all these deals to sacrifice most of their draft picks for "proven" players?

Either way, I've truly been inspired by Romeo's move, so much so that I've declared Aquafresh to be my toothpaste of choice for 2012 and Mike Golic the starting running back for my fantasy baseball team next season.  Championship!
